Volunteers' ID card photos are taken by PBEM staff during in-person trainings. If this is not possible, for example in the case of BEECN volunteers who complete virtual training, a photo may be uploaded into MIP per instructions below.

In-person photos

Awkward! For both of us. We get too-close with an iPhone, and it feels creepy. But it only lasts two seconds, and neither of us will ever have to do it again.

We take two shots in quick succession, because it is surprising how many people blink in one of them.

Uploading your own photo

If you wish to upload your own photo for your ID card, please use the 'ID Card Photo' field under My Profile > Additional Information. Do not email us a photo.

Please note:

Photos that do not meet all these requirements will be silently deleted and we will use the one we have on file, if we have one.

  1. Photo must be like a driver's license or passport image. No Halloween costumes, no vacation memories, no wedding photos, no anime avatars, and no red carpet paparazzi shots unless you are an EGOT winner.
  2. Background must be plain, such as a blank wall.
  3. Photo must be full color, not black and white. No Instagram filters.
  4. Face the camera straight on, head and shoulders.
  5. No hat, facial covering, or sunglasses unless used for medical or religious purposes.
  6. Good lighting. Take a step away from the wall to avoid a shadow.
  7. You may smile if you wish. But no Groucho glasses.
  8. Uploaded file must be at least 500 x 500 pixels. (Aspect ratio (height:width) does not matter, we crop each photo for printing.)
  9. No scanned images of printed photos. A photo of your passport or a license will not work.
  10. A good quality smartphone photo is fine. Is there any other kind anymore?
