A challenge coin is a coin (usually 1¾" in diameter if issued by PBEM) bearing an organization's insignia. Historically, challenge coins were presented by military unit commanders in recognition of special achievement by a member of the unit. They could also be (and still are) exchanged in recognition of visits to an organization.
