|From Carmen Merlo's talking points at the recognition event: "''Outreach to our communities is some of the most important work that NETs do. It’s through outreach that we promote this program to get new members, and it’s through outreach that we prepare our communities for a major disaster. Kathryn has been indispensable for our outreach efforts. Every event takes a great deal of planning. Kathryn has been extremely generous with her time, having given at least 31 hours of volunteer time in outreach alone (and probably more). More importantly, I know I can rely on Kathryn to do an excellent job promoting NET and talking with people about emergency preparedness. I can give her a box of materials and she knows exactly what to do."''
