Portland NET Tumblr

The Portland NET Tumblr, aka "The NET Coordinator's File Cabinet", is a microblogging news blotter with posts relevant to Portland NET and the discipline of emergency management generally. PBEM recommends volunteers visit the Tumblr and scan through article headlines at least once a week, reading any articles they find particularly interesting.
The Tumblr exists to:
- Keep volunteers up to date on news around emergency management-relevant topics. This is a dynamic and frequently shifting field, after all.
- Provide supplemental information for Volunteer Support Function (VSF) topics. For example, articles related to pet rescue are tagged VSF17 for easy sorting and review.
- Serve as an emergency management research hub. Some volunteers (and non-volunteers who know our work) are researching specific EM topics. With those topics organized by tagging, researchers can find the information they need quickly.
- Recognize the amazing work of volunteers. On the Tumblr, you'll find photos and information about what your fellow NETs are doing.
- Post fun stuff. Emergency management can get pretty dour if we let it.
The Tumblr is used only for the purposes listed above. It is never used for calendar events or scheduling; that is handled through the volunteer management system and other means. This resource is free to use and 100% publicly viewable; getting a Tumblr account is not necessary. ...

Posting and Formatting Photos
PBEM uses the Tumblr to post photographs of NET activities. For good recordkeeping and consistency, all photos of NET activities must be uniformly formatted. If that level of detail seems extreme, then never hope to be assigned organizing, classifying, and dating literally thousands of NET photos with no labels.
Note the example below. Every published photo or photoset should be captioned thusly:
Title of Event
Date: for publishing format is spelled out month, day, year (e.g. "November 12, 2022")
Location: can be approximate, or even as broad as the neighborhood's name
Credit: name of the person who took the photo
Below that bloc of information, add a description of what is happening. If possible, include the names of everyone in the picture.
Tags: don't forget to tag the post appropriately. In the example to the right, the post is tagged as "deployment".
DO NOT publish photos that include minors if PBEM has not obtained a photo release for the minor signed by a parent or guardian. The completed parental consent form should be archived at PBEM alongside the photo itself.
