Map of Simplex Regions

Because of Portland's hilly terrain and the need to provide for communication between staging areas with limited radio equipment, we have established nine simplex regions. This map shows the boundaries of these regions. Ideally there will be one simplex subnet established in each region. Each subnet will operate simplex rather than via a repeater and have a subnet control operator (SNC). The SNC for each region will check in operators and facilitate tactical communication and the passage of formal traffic. Because the location of the SNC will vary from exercise to exercise and there will be shift changes during an extended deployment, some teams may obtain more reliable communication by checking into the subnet of a region adjoining the region containing their staging area.
