During an exercise or deployment the controller may call you by your tactical call sign. For instance, if your tactical call sign were “South Heights”, you would reply with words like “Net Control, South Heights. This "hand shake" would be followed by tactical or formal communication. At the end of such a communication you should give both your FCC call sign and your tactical call sign. For instance "K7PDX operating as South Heights, Out.”

If you need the attention of the controller, wait for a quiet point and say “Net Control" followed by your tactical call sign and then "Over” and wait to be acknowledged.  If you have a simulated emergency or a priority situation just wait for a gap in the conversation and say the word “Emergency” or “Priority” and wait to be acknowledged.  (If you have an actual emergency, consider using 911.)
