Overview

Welcome to Centennial NET! Neighborhood Emergency Teams (NETs) are Portland residents trained by Portland Bureau of Emergency Management and Portland Fire & Rescue to provide emergency disaster assistance within their own neighborhoods. In Centennial, we implement a community resilience approach to preparedness and response.

Meetings

Centennial NET meets monthly, and we welcome all attendees! You do not have to be a trained NET to meet with us. Living, working, or playing in Centennial (or even a nearby neighborhood) works for us. We especially welcome folks from Glenfair, Gresham’s Centennial neighborhood, Pleasant Valley, and Rockwood.

In 2025, we are generally meeting on 2nd Thursdays from 6:30-8:00 pm. We are alternating in-person and virtual meetings. In-person meetings are held at a neighborhood location TBD (email CentennialNET@gmail.com to learn more!). Virtual meetings will be held via Zoom. See our calendar below for the latest schedule information, or send us an email . The dates planned for 2025 are:

Ways To Get Involved

First, if you’re interested in becoming a trained NET, get signed up! It takes some time, but it’s worth it.

Besides NET training and meetings, there are other ways you can contribute.

  • Volunteer for the City of Portland’s BEECN Program. This is an excellent way to participate without much time commitment.
  • Follow the Portland Prepares Facebook group.
  • If there’s another way you’d like to contribute, let us know.

Current Opportunities

You’re invited to participate on the Community Engagement Committee, a working group dedicated to achieving Centennial NET’s Outreach, Community Resilience, and Team Development goals. Activities may include but likely won’t be limited to:

  • Participating in committee meetings
  • Defining success criteria and strategy
  • Making direct connections with NETs, community leaders, and neighbors
  • Representing Centennial NET on social media
  • Representing Centennial NET at community events

Active NET status, experience with communications, or existing community relationships are helpful, but not required. We are looking for interested folks that can commit to an average of 1 hour a week for at least 6 months.

We are also looking for someone interested in a committee chair role, that would be willing to commit to the role for 1 year. The committee chair should be an Active NET.
